Welcome to Hollin Hills
Located 10 miles south of Washington D.C., Hollin Hills is a collection of over 450 mid-century modern homes built by developer Robert Davenport and renowned architect Charles Goodman, and is considered one of the most significant mid-century communities in the United States.
The concept was to build light filled homes that nestled into the landscape, retaining the natural contours of the site, positioned to provide homes with privacy and views into the surrounding woodland.
The first home was built in 1946 and development continued until 1971. During that time there were a multitude of models of home with only a handful of each style built, some are truly one of a kind. Over the years some homeowners have made additions to the original home or added studios in the spacious yards. More recently the civic association has actively pursued a Historic Overlay District designation for Hollin Hills, to continue to protect the unique architecture of the neighborhood.
The lifestyle of the homeowner was a major part of the vision of the neighborhood. Along with the spacious and private homes set in a natural woodland landscape was the idea to include numerous parks and a recreation area with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and pickleball courts. The Bluefish Swim Team meets throughout the summer, the pool also provides water aerobics and lots of social events for young and old alike.
Not to be missed, the Hollin Hills House and Garden Tour is a sell-out biennial event. Homeowners open their homes for mid-century and architectural enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the unique environment.
