Welcome to Del Ray
One of Alexandria’s most popular neighborhoods with countless dining and shopping options. In the early 1900’s this area was home to the railroad workers in Potomac Yards. Del Ray is now an eclectic mix of bungalows, row houses, single family homes with porches and duplexes.
Del Rey’s streets are residential, lined with tree-shaded sidewalks, picket fences and back-alley spaces. The neighborhood’s stock of four-square homes & bungalows with front porches, duplexes, and row houses are built close together and have interconnected front yards, so you’ll find neighbors socializing or out strolling the neighborhood. Del Ray has a cluster of restaurants, shops and businesses along “The Avenue” and is convenient to the Braddock Road Metro stop for commuting.
Not to be missed is Del Ray’s Art on the Avenue - a street festival that draws hundreds of artists and tens of thousands of visitors each year. It takes place in October and offers food & beverages, a children’s crafts center, performing artists, music, and much more. It has been named one of the best festivals in Virginia.
Stroll down “The Avenue” to find the beloved shops and restaurants of Del Ray and discover the heart of the neighborhood. Lena’s Pizza, St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, Evening Star Cafe, and Holy Cow are a few of the eateries not to be missed. The Del Ray Halloween Parade also takes place on The Avenue. Everyone has an opportunity to join in this annual event as awards are given out for Best Pet Costume, Best Decorated Business, Best Decorated Home and Best Decorated Stroller.
There is always something happening in Del Ray - come be a part of it!
